Concert 5 CMS - Alessio Bax

Spotlight on Alessio Bax

January 19, 2017

Next Tuesday, January 24th the CMS Piano Quartet will entertain us with their Fauré and Brahms renditions. Headlining the Quartet is Italian classical pianist Alessio Bax. The award-winning prodigy graduated from the Bari conservatory at only 14 years old and went on to win the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition at 19, and later the Leeds international Pianoforte Competition.

World-Renowned Pianist

We are thrilled at Friends of Chamber Music to host the CMS, and in particular Bax, who has given recitals world-wide, including renowned venues in Europe, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, and Mexico City. A Gramophone’s “Editor’s Choice” in November 2014, the renowned classical music reviewer stated, “Alessio Bax is clearly among the most remarkable young pianists now before the public.” Known for his insightful interpretations, lyricism, and dazzling proficiency to create an unparalleled listening experience, Bax’s music is hypnotically intense (Gramophone).

Giving Back to His Musical Roots: The Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation

Bax has also released several albums to great acclaim and made appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish national Orchestra, Dallas Symphony and Tokyo Symphony among many others as a soloist. His most notable collaboration, however, is with his wife, pianist Lucille Chung. Together they’ve played numerous festivals and world class venues, as well as serve as co-artistic directors of the not-for-profit Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation in Dallas. Former students of Maestro Achúcarro, Bax and Chung oversee the foundation’s mission to provide support and promote recitals and concerts highlighting Joaquín Achúcarro scholars and legacy pianists.
