Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: String quartet No 21 in D major, K575
Dmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet No 11 in F minor, Opus 122
Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Opus 80
The Takács Quartet is a perennial favourite with our audience, and in 2012, Gramophone announced that the group was the rst (and only) string quartet to be inducted into its first Hall of Fame. Their irresistible blend of virtuosic technique and engaging personality offer a window into the Hungarian quartet tradition. This
programme will give us a chance to hear the connections in late quartets by Mozart and Mendelssohn, and a late quartet by Dmitri Shostakovich, a great twentieth century composer who also looked to the 18th and 19th Century quartet traditions.
