Friends of Chamber Music are delighted to welcome the Calidore Quartet for their debut performance in Vancouver on November 1 at 7:30 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse.
This emsemble has been performing in venues worldwide for over a decade, and have numerous critically acclaimed recordings, and significant awards behind them. This will be our first concert with this ensemble.
“The Calidore Quartet, founded ten years ago at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, balanced the technical demands and humane adventures of these masterpieces … more completely than any contemporary string quartet I have heard…” (New York Arts)
“This quartet…now taking the world by storm, is astonishing,” the L.A. Times has raved. “I’ve never heard a quartet so young get so inside this ultimately inscrutable music….The Calidore approached the kind of sublimity other quartets spend a lifetime seeking.”
Tthe Calidore will perform Beethoven’s Quartet in B-flat major, Opus 18, No. 6, “La Malinconia”, selections from String Quartet No. 1, “At the Octoroon Balls” by Wynton Marsalis, and Smetana’s String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, “From my life” for its premiere concert.
