Friends of Chamber Music are delighted to welcome back the Smetana Trio, who last performed for us in Vancouver in 2019.
Join us on November 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Playhouse to hear the foremost of today’s Czech chamber ensembles.
The Smetana Trio consists of Jitka Cechová (piano), Jan Talich (violin), and Jan Pálenícek (cello).
“The three instruments blended into a single sound, a perfect understanding of the varied moods, and in addition a delight in the music,” Badische Neueste Nachrichten has said of the trio. “At the same time the architecture of the movements was never neglected, and never for a moment did the musicians lose sight of the whole while shaping the details.”
American Record Guide writes: “The passion for music of their homeland was matched by musical skill, flawless ensemble, and exceptional communicative ability.”
For this concert, the Smetana Trio will perform Rachmaninoff’s Trio élégiaque in G minor, Martinů’s Piano Trio No.3 in C major, Opus 32, and Smetana’s Piano Trio in G minor, Opus 15.
