59th Young Musicians Chamber Music Competition

March 10, 2013

FREE PUBLIC CONCERT/COMPETITION FINALS

$5,000 IN PRIZES
FOR YOUNG CHAMBER MUSIC PLAYERS

On Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 7:00 pm, an audience of more than 150 joined Friends of Chamber Music for a FREE PUBLIC CONCERT, the 59th annual Young Musicians Chamber Music Competition. The concert was held in the Koerner Recital Hall at the Vancouver Academy of Music, 1270 Chestnut Street, Vancouver.

We are thrilled each year by the passion and skill shown by young musicians in playing such wonderful music. These finalist groups were selected from play-down auditions held in February 2013. This free concert is also a great way for people of all ages to come out and hear chamber music from the classical, Romantic and modern periods, whether for the first time or after decades of enjoyment. It was great to see that so many people again decided to do just that!

And for the fourth year in a row, audience members voted on $500 prizes awarded to both a junior (up to age 18) and senior (up to age 26) ensemble. A Friends of Chamber Music board member again made the audience prizes possible by his generosity.

The adjudicator this year, Linda Lee Thomas, pianist and chamber musician, awarded a 1st and 2nd junior prize and a 1st senior prize.
