Join us as we farewell the Emerson Quartet’s final concert in Vancouver

November 20, 2022

Friends of Chamber Music has been celebrating its 75th season with a full roster of highly acclaimed ensembles. The organization’s final concert of 2022 on December 4th is a very special one for devotees of chamber music: it will be the last concert that the Emerson String Quartet will play for FCM before its members retire at the end of this season.

The Emerson will be joined by cellist Eric Wilson, who was a founding member of the quartet when they were students and who left in 1979 to accept a position as Professor of Cello at the University of British Columbia. They will perform Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major, Opus 163, D956.

Also on the program are Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in G major, Opus 33 No. 5 “Russian” and Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 12 in D-flat major, Opus 133.

This will be the 34th concert that The Emerson Quartet has played for FCM. During this ensemble’s exemplary chamber music career, the artists have presented many felicitous concerts of outstanding music. Words cannot express our appreciation for the wealth of superb musicianship they have given us.

The Emerson Quartet concert takes place December 4th at 4 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse.
